1: Executive summary

Wild Magic is all about life. It allows life, gives life, and creates life.

Introduction

Wild Magic is a wild extravaganza of beauty and fun. It creates a visitor experience extraordinaire – combining the beauty of the natural world with adventure and learning – all designed to inspire people to green their own lives, – eg by making their own gardens more wildlife friendly, reducing plastic consumption, living sustainably etc. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the extent to which modern life is out of sync with nature, the havoc we are wreaking on the natural world as a result (though we depend upon it for our own survival as a species) and to show how we can all live more in sync with nature and improve our health and happiness as a result.

This is achieved through a wide and exciting array of products and services, all showcased by a wonderful family day out providing fun, inspirational and educational activities, games, adventures and innovations that both adults and children can enjoy –  appealing to pleasure seekers, the curious, and more serious minded learners alike.

Wild Magic will primarily be run by ex offenders, offering them a proper job and/or vocational training opportunities with qualifications, together with a full support package for their emotional / spiritual healing and development, in order for them to transform their life into … whatever they want it to be.

The first site is just the beginning. We see a future of more magical places around the country, creating more habitats for abundant wildlife, more places for the public to enjoy and learn from, and more opportunities for not only ex offenders but many vulnerable groups. This model is very flexible, and can be adapted to provide a lifeline for eg homeless people, those with disabilities, and others. At its core, Wild Magic provides the vision and the blueprint for an inspiring demonstration of how humanity and nature can walk together, hand in hand, into a better future.

Summary of Business Plan

Section 2 of the Business Plan delves deeper into the company and what it actually looks like. As a Community Interest Company or social enterprise, wholly owned by the Owen Smith Charitable Trust, it will be run for charitable purposes. Here we see the company ethos, central to which is that well-being shouldn’t have a price tag. This is directly at variance with modern capitalism and economics, which gives a price tag to everything – and which has resulted in the degradation we now have to deal with. The Intellectual Property section goes on to outline the unique methodologies that will operate behind the scenes to create the  mpressive results described here.

The important sections of Mission Statement and Social Objectives can also be found in Section 2, detailing the four pronged objectives of wellbeing of wildlife, wellbeing of people, learning or education, and opportunities for the under-privileged in our society. We then look at the precise outcomes that can evidence how we are achieving each of our stated objectives. Finally we complete this Section 2 with an insight into the industries Wild Magic will operate in, and a brief look at the customers and competitors we foresee.

Moving on to Section 3, here we look at our Day to day operations, such as suppliers / organisations we will work with, premises, equipment needed, fund raising events or campaigns, and legal requirements. This section then moves on to cover the longer term vision and goals, detailing some of the important milestones we hope to achieve and how long they will take. This gives a clear idea of how the vision will turn into reality, and the specific actions needed to achieve that.

Section 4, the marketing and fundraising section, begins with a snapshot of some of the wider conditions out of which WM is born. The Market Trends and External Market Economics sections detail factors that operate in the external world, such as the fact that stress and mental health problems are becoming more common, presenting a need for real solutions that work. Climate change is likely to increasingly impact food and water security, which we anticipate will drive an interest in self sufficiency (to some extent) – which was very common until recently (within living memory). We then acknowledge the completely unsustainable continuing trends driving the climate emergency we face – habitat loss, mono crops, chemical pollution, and the ensuing urgent need for greater awareness among the general public, who currently remain largely uninformed and powerless to do very much. Everything in the giant wheel of global capitalism makes almost limitless plastic, palm oil, pollution etc an integral part of modern life for everyone, a fact which urgently needs to change, for nothing less than the survival of our species. We badly need a practical alternative that works.

Section 4 goes on to briefly cover some of the marketing activities we intend to do, and some of the different platforms open to us – such as social media, the conventional media, word of mouth etc. Naturally we will need to be well versed in these in order to exploit free advertising as much as possible. We end the section with a look at customer characteristics (but should this go into Section 2?)

Finally Section 5 looks at the income and outgoings we expect for the first 3 years. These demonstrate the viability of the enterprise and present a very positive financial future that we can look forward to.

With the multiple needs that Wild Magic addresses, the gaps it fills, and the areas it impacts, we sincerely hope the reader will see fit to give this beautiful vision whatever helping hand he can, towards becoming a reality.
